Introduction: We present laparoscopic stapler appendectomy as an alternative treatment method in children diagnosed with appendicitis.
Material and method: In this retrospective study we analised the charts of the pacients admitted to Ponderas Academic Hospital between January 2018 and October 2020 with acute appendicitis.
Results Were performed78 laparoscopic appendectomies in children with ages of 3 to 16 years old. Of these, 70 were performed using mechanical suturing devices as an alternative to intracorporeal or extracorporeal knots for sealing the appendiceal stump.The time of surgery and hospitalization time were higher in 2020 in comparison with 2018 and 2019.
Conclusions Taking into account that to date, there is no study to clearly demonstrate the superiority of any laparoscopic appendiceal stump sealing method over the others, we consider stapler appendectomy a safe and efficient alternative that can be used, shortening operating time and hospital stay, when costs are not an issue.
