Index Academic Repository is a multidisciplinary digital academic repository dedicated to the collection, organization, preservation, and dissemination of research outputs and academic materials.
The Repository is managed by MultiMedia Publishing and is part of the Index Academic platform, alongside the academic journal Index Academic. However, the two components have distinct functions and should be regarded separately.
Purpose of the Repository
Index Academic Repository aims to facilitate long-term access to academic and scientific works and to increase their visibility in the digital environment.
Its main objectives are:
- to facilitate open access to research outputs whenever copyright and publishing conditions permit;
- to maintain a stable and organized record of academic materials;
- to increase the visibility of authors and works through structured bibliographic metadata;
- to facilitate the discovery and citation of academic materials;
- to support the archiving and dissemination of research from different fields and institutions;
- to preserve access to academic documents that may otherwise be dispersed across different websites, platforms, or publications.
The Repository is multidisciplinary and may include materials from the natural and exact sciences, computer science and artificial intelligence, engineering and technology, medicine and health sciences, social sciences, economics and law, humanities and arts, agricultural and environmental sciences, as well as interdisciplinary fields.
Materials That May Be Included
Depending on the nature of the work and the applicable deposit rights, the Repository may host, among others:
- scientific articles;
- preprints;
- accepted manuscripts;
- published versions of articles, where the publisher’s policy permits their archiving;
- conference papers;
- book chapters and other academic contributions;
- research reports;
- studies and working papers;
- theses, dissertations, and other academic works;
- educational and scientific materials;
- datasets, supplementary materials, and other research outputs where appropriate for archiving.
Whenever possible, each material is accompanied by bibliographic metadata enabling its identification and retrieval, such as title, author, affiliation, abstract, keywords, language, discipline, document type, publication date, and existing persistent identifiers.
Repository and the Index Academic Journal
Index Academic Repository is not the Index Academic journal.
The Index Academic journal is an academic publication with its own editorial process, in which manuscripts are evaluated through double-anonymous peer review before being accepted for publication.
The Repository serves a different purpose: the archiving, organization, and dissemination of academic materials.
Therefore, the inclusion of a document in Index Academic Repository does not mean that it has been peer reviewed, accepted by the journal’s editorial team, or published in the Index Academic journal.
When a material has already been peer reviewed and published by a journal, this may be indicated in the record metadata together with the bibliographic information and the DOI of the original publication.
Verification of Materials
Materials proposed for inclusion in the Repository may undergo an administrative and editorial check before publication.
This verification may include, among other aspects:
- the academic or scientific nature of the material;
- the completeness and accuracy of the metadata;
- identification of the authors;
- the existence of previous versions or publications;
- compliance with copyright and deposit conditions;
- the existence and accuracy of bibliographic identifiers;
- compliance with the technical requirements of the Repository.
This verification does not constitute peer review and does not represent an assessment or certification of the scientific value of the work.
Responsibility for the content of deposited materials remains with their authors.
Open Access
Index Academic Repository promotes the principles of Open Access and the widest possible access to research outputs.
Materials may be made openly accessible when authors hold the necessary rights or when the policy of the original publication permits such access.
Reuse conditions may vary from one document to another. Some materials may be made available under Creative Commons licenses, while others may remain subject to more restrictive copyright conditions.
The applicable license or legal status is indicated at the level of each record whenever this information is available.
Previously Published Materials
The Repository may also include works previously published by other journals, publishers, or institutions, provided that deposit of the relevant version is permitted.
Authors or depositors are responsible for verifying the rights they hold in relation to the material and the original publisher’s self-archiving policy.
Depending on that policy, the following may be deposited:
- the preprint version;
- the accepted author manuscript;
- the final published version;
- or only the metadata and a link to the original publication.
A document that already has a DOI retains its original DOI and does not receive a second DOI solely because it is included in the Repository.
Visibility and Identification
By organizing materials and providing structured metadata, Index Academic Repository aims to facilitate their discovery by:
- search engines;
- academic services;
- metadata aggregators;
- libraries;
- researchers;
- academic institutions;
- other scholarly information infrastructures.
Where justified and where no DOI already exists for the work, certain original and stable materials may be assigned a DOI through the infrastructure used by Index Academic, in accordance with the Repository’s DOI policy.
Preservation of Academic Documents
One of the objectives of the Repository is to maintain a stable and durable record of academic materials.
Documents and their associated metadata are managed so that they may remain accessible and identifiable over time. Corrections, subsequent versions, or possible withdrawals are managed in a manner intended to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record, to the extent permitted by applicable technical, legal, and editorial conditions.
Index Academic Repository
Through this component, Index Academic aims to provide researchers, academics, independent authors, and academic institutions with a multidisciplinary space for the archiving, description, identification, and dissemination of research outputs.
The Repository complements the activity of the Index Academic journal without replacing it: the journal provides the editorial and academic evaluation process, while the Repository provides infrastructure for the preservation and accessibility of a broader range of academic materials.
