The treatment of dental dyschromia is currently one of the most common therapeutic interventions in dental offices. Patients demand these procedures because in modern society, a healthy and pleasant smile is important for social integration. The aim of the paper is to analyze some possibilities of intervention on dental discolorations by home teeth whitening methods (Home Bleaching).
Material and methods. To follow the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of different methods and materials used for teeth whitening at home, we selected patients who at the time of consultation presented different types of changes in tooth color. The paper presents some of these cases to analyze the results obtained but also the possible side effects.
Results. In all the analyzed cases, a chromatic change was found in a positive sense at the level of the dental arches, but the results were different depending on the substances used, the technique and the time of their use. The best results were obtained when using products with a higher concentration of bleaching agent (carbamide peroxide / hydrogen peroxide). Temporary adverse effects were also observed in patients using bleaching strips and the prefabricated mouth guard kit.
Conclusions. Whitening techniques at home are an alternative to bleaching techniques in the office but the results are obtained in a longer time, temporary local side effects may occur, which require strict compliance with the instructions on dosage and duration of use.
