Of particular importance in the pharmaceutical profession are sciences such as botany, pharmacognosy, chemistry, biochemistry and pharmacology. Our paper will highlight various aspects of the chemical-pharmaceutical relationship in the evolution of medicine and the pharmaceutical art. Both the term pharmacy and the name of the science of chemistry have an Egyptian origin: “phamaki”, an epithet of the medicine god “Thoth”, a word meaning “one who gives security”, “chem” meaning “black earth” with a meaning of concern for concrete things. from nature, what we call today the study of the composition and structure of living and non-living matter compounds. From empirical therapy whose remedies were extracted from plant, animal or mineral products, to the isolation of active ingredients, to synthetic drugs, to drugs obtained through biotechnology, nowadays chemistry has played a leading role for pharmacy.
