THE IMPACT OF DUCTUS VENOSUS ASSESSMENT ON VARIOUS ADVERSE PREGNANCY OUTCOMES RELATED TO FIRST TRIMESTER COMBINED TEST HIGH RISK RESULTS

Introduction: All pregnant women should be able to benefit from some form of prenatal screening or diagnosis. In order to improve the first trimester standard screening Doppler parameters have been included, such as, increased impedance to flow in the umbilical artery (studies results showed various conclusions ) and ductus venosus flow assessment that can be incorporated into the first trimester scan.
Methods: First-trimester combined screening (including maternal age, biochemistry and nuchal translucency) was carried out to singleton pregnancies which were attended in our tertiary referral fetal medicine unit from January 2020 to December 2022. The total number of patients who underwent prenatal screening and subsequent pregnancy analysis was 1320 from which 50 patients considered high risk at the first trimester screening and with abnormal ductus venosus assessment were selected.
Conclusions: DV assessment in fetuses with enlarged NT and normal karyotype must become mandatory in the first trimester and second trimester screening as it has proven to be useful in the prediction of congenital heart diseases an adverse perinatal outcome. This additional utility increases the clinical interest of the DV assessment. More research is needed to quantify the benefit of measuring DV flow in routine obstetric practice
