Index Academic is an open access academic journal. All published articles are available online, free of charge and immediately, without subscription, access fees, mandatory registration, or embargo periods.
The journal aims to facilitate free access to knowledge and allows the reading, downloading, distribution, and responsible reuse of published works under the terms of the applicable license.
Open Access Policy
Academic content published in Index Academic is available in immediate open access from the moment of publication.
Readers may freely access the full text of articles and use it in accordance with the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
The following do not apply:
- embargo periods;
- subscriptions for access to articles;
- fees for reading or downloading the full text;
- mandatory account creation for accessing articles.
This policy aims to facilitate the circulation, discovery, citation, and reuse of research results.
Copyright
Authors retain copyright over works published in Index Academic.
Publication in the journal does not involve the exclusive transfer of copyright to MultiMedia Publishing or Index Academic.
By accepting publication, authors grant the publisher the non-exclusive right of first publication of the work and the right to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and identify the article as having been originally published in Index Academic.
Authors retain the right to use, distribute, reproduce, adapt, and deposit their own works in accordance with the license applied to the article.
Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 License
All articles published in Index Academic are distributed under the:
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
This license allows anyone:
- to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format;
- to adapt, transform, and build upon the material;
- to use the material for academic, educational, professional, or commercial purposes,
provided that the attribution requirements of the license are respected.
Users must provide appropriate credit, identify the source and author, provide a reference to the license, and indicate whether changes were made.
The license cannot be revoked for uses carried out in accordance with its terms.
License: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
Recommended Attribution
When reusing an article published in Index Academic, the citation should allow clear identification of the author and the original publication.
Whenever possible, attribution should include:
- the name of the author or authors;
- the title of the article;
- the journal title Index Academic;
- the year, volume, and other relevant bibliographic information;
- the article DOI;
- a reference to the CC BY 4.0 license;
- an indication of any changes made to the reused material.
The DOI should be used whenever available to facilitate persistent identification of the published version.
Authors’ Rights
Authors may, without requesting additional permission from the journal:
- distribute the article to colleagues or students;
- use the article in teaching activities;
- reproduce the article in theses or their own academic works;
- reuse parts of the article in subsequent works, with appropriate citation of the original publication;
- present the results of the work at conferences or other academic events;
- deposit the article in institutional, disciplinary, or general repositories;
- publish the article on their own website or academic profile;
- allow reuse and adaptation of the work under the terms of CC BY 4.0.
These rights derive both from authors retaining copyright and from the open nature of the license applied.
Self-Archiving Policy
Index Academic allows authors to deposit and distribute versions of their own works without any embargo period.
The following versions may be archived:
- the version initially submitted for review (Submitted Manuscript / Preprint);
- the version accepted after peer review (Accepted Author Manuscript);
- the final version published by the journal (Version of Record).
For the published version, use of the journal’s official file is recommended, together with the complete bibliographic citation and DOI.
When an earlier version of the manuscript is available in a repository or as a preprint, after publication authors are encouraged to add the citation and DOI of the final version published in Index Academic.
Self-archiving is not subject to any embargo period.
Preprints
Previous publication of a manuscript as a preprint does not, in itself, constitute prior publication that prevents submission to Index Academic.
Authors must inform the editorial team of the existence of the preprint and provide, where available, its link or identifier.
After publication of the article in Index Academic, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record by adding the citation and DOI of the published version.
Third-Party Materials
The CC BY 4.0 license applied to an article does not automatically extend to third-party materials included in the article under another license, with permission, or under a legal exception.
Such materials may include:
- images;
- photographs;
- tables;
- graphs;
- maps;
- text excerpts;
- research instruments;
- other copyrighted elements.
Where such material is not covered by the article’s CC BY 4.0 license, its status must be explicitly indicated in the caption, text, or another appropriate manner.
Anyone wishing to reuse such material must comply with the rights and conditions established by the relevant rights holder.
Authors’ Responsibility for Copyright
Authors are responsible for ensuring that materials included in the manuscript may be legally published.
Where permission from a rights holder is required, it must be obtained before publication.
Authors must inform the editorial team of any licensing conditions or restrictions applicable to materials originating from external sources.
Acceptance of a manuscript does not transfer to the journal the author’s responsibility for possible infringements of third-party rights.
License Information in Articles
Open access status and the applicable license should be clearly indicated in published articles, including, wherever possible:
- on the article webpage;
- in the PDF version;
- in bibliographic metadata;
- in records supplied to indexing and aggregation services.
For articles published in Index Academic, the recommended wording is:
© The Author(s). This article is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Article License and Website Copyright
The CC BY 4.0 license applies to academic articles published in Index Academic and to other materials for which this license is explicitly indicated.
It should not automatically be interpreted as applying to the entire content, design, graphic elements, logos, or technical components of the indexacademic.ro website.
The rights and conditions applicable to such elements are established separately.
Open Access and Publication Fees
Open access to articles is not conditional upon the payment of a fee by readers.
At present, Index Academic does not charge authors fees for manuscript submission, review, or publication.
Any future change to the publication fee policy will be announced transparently before implementation and will not affect articles already published.
Commitment to Open Access
Through its open access model, authors’ retention of copyright, and the use of the CC BY 4.0 license, Index Academic aims to facilitate the widest possible dissemination of research and the responsible reuse of academic knowledge.
The Open Access, Copyright and License Policy should be read together with the Editorial Policy and Peer Review, Publication Ethics and Best Practices, and Author Guidelines.
