Description

Viorel ORDEANU, Lucia-Elena IONESCU

Complex combinations of transition metals represent a distinct class of chemotherapeutic agents, widely used as antitumor and antiviral agents in the clinical practice. The estimated result is to develop, with the possibility of implementation in oncological therapeutics, some new antitumor agents, as alternatives to therapy with platinum compounds, through experimental research in vitro. The synthesis and physico-chemical and structural characterization of some complex combinations of the transition metal Ruthenium with synthetic ligands with a quinolone nucleus, used as current therapeutic antibiotics, was carried out in another research project. In our microbiological laboratories, only the evaluation of the antibacterial activity of the newly synthesized combinations with Ruthenium was done, as well as the estimation of the stability over time of the tested products. The antibacterial effect highlighted by us is stronger in the form without Ruthenium (white) than in the form with Ruthenium (black), probably due to a better solubility. The tested antibiotics, coupled with Ruthenium, retain their antibacterial activity, so the anticancer treatment will also have an anti-infective effect, useful in the prophylaxis and treatment of secondary infections in oncology. Thus, a new therapeutic approach to prophylaxis and infectious complications in cancer is taking shape, with possible innovative drugs with dual pharmacological action.
