The article investigates the relationship between the Big Five trait called “openness to experience” (reflecting the degree of openness and interest in new and unusual experiences) and brain wave activity measured using 8-channel EEG. Participants were given personality tests to assess openness to experience, and then had their EEG waves recorded while performing cognitive and perceptual tasks. The study highlights the existence of correlations between the level of openness to experience and the DSP (Power Spectral Densities) of the EEG waves. A correlation can be determined between the level of openness to experience and DSP of brain activity. These results suggest that the personality trait “openness to experience” may be associated with patterns of brain activity, with implications for understanding cognitive processes and human behavior. The study is a first attempt, it will be followed by other experiments that will be carried out with scanning equipment with a larger number of sensors.
