Aspergillus is a ubiquitous saprophytic mold worldwide that plays an essential role in carbon and nitrogen recycling. This fungus has a simple biological cycle characterized by a high sporulation capacity, which results in the release of conidia at high concentrations (1 to 100 conidia/m3) into the atmosphere. Aspergillus conidia have a small but sufficient diameter (2 to 3μm) to reach the pulmonary alveoli. Chest computed tomography (CT) has been significantly superior in diagnosing ABPA because it is more sensitive than plain chest radiography; however, there are no pathognomonic CT findings for this entity.
