Citrus limon is a small tree, with an ellipsoidal, yellow fruit (hesperidium), used in alimentary industry, phytotherapy or cosmetic industry. The whole fruit contains flavonoids and organic acids (ascorbic acid – vitamin C). The essential oil obtained through water steam distillation has as mainly component limonene, which possesses a high antibacterial and antiviral activity. We have realised a pharmacognostic study through microscopically exam of the lemon fruits and gas chromatographic analysis of the lemon peel essential oil, and then we have incorporated it in a natural hand antiseptic gel.
