In the recent years, the cosmetics industry has sought new active ingredients due to consumer demand for the most natural and ecological products obtained through sustainable resources that improve the appearance of the skin. The main reported benefit of natural extracts, used in skin care products, includes antioxidant activity. For skin care, the use of products with bioactive ingredients from natural products, is useful, especially since the skin is subjected daily to multiple aggressions of environmental factors, such as: ultraviolet (UV) rays, mainly skin aging, but also environmental pollution, stress, smoking or poor nutrition. Due to the multiple curative properties of these natural products with antioxidant activity, as well as due to the numerous concerns for optimizing the methods for their determination, it is very important to know the methods of analysis. This review presents ingredients of natural origin with antioxidant properties, their usefulness in skin care products and methods for determining antioxidant activity.
