Abstract

This review will examine how War and Peace by Leo Tolstoi portrays the Napoleonic Wars and reflects on history and human agency, especially Tolstoy’s views on determinism versus free will. It will also discuss how the novel’s themes – the impact of war on society, the nature of leadership, and the unpredictability of historical events – resonate with contemporary global geopolitics.

Keywords: War and Peace, Leo Tolstoi, Napoleonic Wars, novel, history, fiction, philosophy
